You have unique gifts, talents, and capabilities you’ve been blessed with. You’re here to rise at work and make a meaningful difference and impact. This is why I love the philosophy of Edge Moves that I’ve created over years of executing leadership development learning experiences. They’re a Brilliant Difference actualizer, helping you harness your talents in a way to make an impact not only for yourself, but those you work with. They help you be the leader you were born to be and make the impact you were put on this world to make, by pushing you to not stay in your comfort zone.
Edge Moves are any actions you take to stretch you from your comfort zone to courage zone. They’re incremental and stackable, conditioning you to better handle change and newness along the way.
And that all sounds good right? Brilliant Difference visibility. Pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone and reaching goals. Equipping yourself to better handle change. But what Edge Move types are there and which is best for your work and Brilliant Difference? It’s time to uncover that answer!
Stop here if you’re an audio learner! In episode 191 of the Your Brilliant Difference Podcast, I walk you through the process and explain what each type of Edge Move looks like in the workplace, and what keeps you from following through on resolutions.

Edge Moves and Resolutions: Why Resolutions Fail
The ultimate goal of Edge Moves is to get you from point A to point B, whether you’re solving a problem or striving for a goal.
When you make a resolution to yourself without Edge Moves, it becomes a whole lot harder to reach point B.
Let’s take a New Year’s resolution, for instance. Let’s say you no longer want to drink pop in 2025. January looked good, and you hadn’t had a sip, but then the Super Bowl came around in February, so of course you needed to indulge in your comfort drink to celebrate. And there goes your resolution out the window, as you realize March has come around and you’ve had a pop every weekend.
But you’re not alone. Did you know that 80-90% of all resolutions fail? I’ll tell you why.
When you make a resolution, typically you make it in one full swoop, one big leap. Instead of cutting out pop entirely, don’t drink it on a Monday. Then a Tuesday. Then so on and so forth until you don’t rely on it anymore.
But it doesn’t have to be a New Year’s resolution. When you want to solve a problem or do something new at work, that’s a resolution, and you can incrementally, sustainably get there in a way that doesn’t shock your threat responses, through Edge Moves.
Without Edge Moves, reaching point B is like taking the stairs three at a time. Chances are you’ll injure yourself and never want to do it again. But with Edge Moves, you take the stairs one at a time until you’re at the top and look back at all the progress you’ve made.
6 Edge Move Types
I can tell you what an Edge Move is until I’m blue in the face, but you may still wonder which is right for you.
I’ve organized Edge Moves into six types of categories:
- Mindset.
- Visibility.
- Relationship.
- Leadership.
- Communication.
- Innovation.
These are solely types, and you’ll find your individual Edge Moves within the type you choose. It should resonate with your Brilliant Difference, the impact you want to have in your company, or a goal you want to reach or a problem you want to solve.
I’ve whipped up an infographic that you can download and go back to, reminding yourself what each type means:

Select Your Edge Move Type
Before you leave this blog, I want you to identify which type of Edge Move resonates with you. You don’t have to act on it…yet. Start with an Edge Move by merely priming yourself with the type you’d like to apply at work.
I’ll see you next week to help you identify specific Edge Moves you can make in your role.
