Power of Your Own

Episode 31: How to Unlock a Power of your Own with Nikki Groom

You don't need to know it all.

What makes you feel confident walking into a new room?  For a lot of us our automatic response might be “feeling prepared.”  Feeling like you know everything and can take on anything.  And while that sounds good in theory, I’d argue true confidence involves being comfortable with the idea that you don’t have to know everything.

I call it the “in the know trap.”  This need to be a subject matter expert and read every resource possible can sometimes be a sign of fear.  It’s like the fear of failure, fear of being judged or fear of missing out has us pervasively take on this ‘must be in the know’ persona.

True confidence in yourself is trusting that you have the ability and power you need as you are.   When we come from a posture of love, we are comforted in knowing if we don’t know, we know we have the capability, competence and resourcefulness to find out.

My guest today is the one and only Nikki Groom!  She’s been hailed as “a force of nature” and “a rising superstar”, Nikki Groom is on a mission to help rising women leaders recognize their worthiness, own their power, and amplify their impact – without checking their integrity at the door.

She is the author of “A Power of Your Own: How to Ignite Your Potential, Uncover Your Purpose, and Blaze Your Own Trail in Life and Business”, a business, brand and marketing strategist, and the creator of the Movement Makers Mastermind: a small business growth accelerator for women entrepreneurs.

Nikki hosts the Movement Makers podcast, is the Founder of The 100 Stories Worth Telling Project, and acts as an adviser for social entrepreneurs and enterprises. She has been involved in dozens of projects and partnerships that focus on empowering women in business.

Today we discuss:

  • A Power of Your Own: This is the title of Nikki’s book and an important idea when we talk about selling from love.  Nikki talks about her own experiences with fear and shares a story of how she overcame it and stepped into her power.
  • Entrepreneurship as a self-development journey: We’ve talked about this before– when your business becomes you, your success seems intrinsically tied to how you see yourself. Nikki shares her learnings on this journey and how self-love and acceptance are fundamental to your success.
  • “Lead by Example”: This is Nikki’s phrase of the year and something all of us can try to improve upon.  Nikki and Finka discuss the ripple effect that leadership can have on the emotional wellbeing of a team.

I can’t wait for you to listen in and to learn how to find a power of your own as Nikki Groom shows us her way.
